Restorations are often needed to seal the dentin to prevent the oral bacteria from getting into the dentin then killing the pulp and the tooth. This patient had a high fever as a puppy and the enamel is abnormal and discolored.

Removing diseased enamel and restoring the tooth by sealing the dentin with composite material lets this patient keep her teeth and eliminate any discomfort from dentin exposure. The cosmetic benefit is not the goal but is a nice by product of the procedure.
